MSc Dissertation Showcase 2026

This student-focused academic event will showcase a selection of applied MSc dissertation projects from students across MSc International Development Management (IDM) and MSc Economic Policy and Analysis (EPA)

The showcase will explore contemporary global challenges and policy questions including:

  • energy transition and energy poverty
  • climate finance and sustainability
  • artificial intelligence, inequality, and higher education
  • international development and public policy

Student presentations this year include research on:

  • household solar energy transition in Nigeria
  • AfCFTA and Africa’s industrial future
  • Morocco’s engagement with international climate finance
  • artificial intelligence, epistemic exclusion, and the experiences of Global South international students in UK higher education

The event will feature invited external discussants from academia and industry, including:

  • Dr Mo J. Bakari – Senior SMR engineer specialising in nuclear energy systems, safety-critical infrastructure, and energy transition projects, bringing industry perspectives on large-scale infrastructure, sustainable development, and future low-carbon energy systems.
  • Dr Attakrit Leckcivilize (University of Oxford) – economist specialising in quantitative analysis and applied research methodology
  • Senior industry professionals from the EDF / Sizewell C nuclear energy project, contributing perspectives on energy transition, infrastructure, and long-term development planning

The concluding discussion session will bring together students, academics, and industry practitioners to reflect on how postgraduate research can contribute to contemporary debates on industrial policy, energy transition, sustainable development, and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

The Showcase is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as colleagues whose interests lie in industrial policy, development, energy transition, sustainability, and related policy challenges.
